Audio for Digital Modes

CAT4OM can route CAT control and audio through the same station layer for supported digital-mode workflows, including TCI RX/TX audio and native CAT4OM audio controls.

CAT control and audio in one station layer

CAT4OM includes audio capabilities for supported profiles and clients, allowing compatible digital-mode workflows to route both radio control and audio through the CAT4OM station layer.

This is especially useful when the operator wants one consistent configuration point for rig control, RX audio, TX audio, device selection, and transmit behavior.

TCI audio

TCI audio can route received and transmitted audio through CAT4OM for compatible digital-mode setups.

Features include:

  • RX audio from the radio audio device to the TCI client;
  • TX audio from the TCI client to the radio audio device;
  • per-radio audio device selection;
  • separate RX and TX device choices;
  • sample-rate negotiation;
  • drift handling;
  • transmit audio pacing;
  • receive audio level monitoring;
  • clear configuration warnings when audio devices are missing or unavailable.

This allows compatible clients to use a single TCI connection for both CAT control and audio, instead of separately selecting CAT4OM for rig control and the sound card directly inside the digital-mode application.

Native CAT4OM audio

Native CAT4OM audio provides audio controls on the CAT4OM protocol path and in the CAT4OM UI.

Features include:

  • per-radio audio ownership;
  • RX listening controls;
  • TX audio path;
  • microphone-on-PTT behavior;
  • binary audio frame transport;
  • UI controls for supported radio and connection profiles.
